At the Northern Hockey School, our Battle and Compete Camp is focused on developing players skating ability, along with essential skills such as body position and puck protection to win puck battles and keep possession of the puck.  Drills such as small area games will be used to create game-like situations. Our coaches are dedicated to creating a fun, supportive and challenging environment that encourages players to develop their skills. We believe that youth hockey should be an enjoyable experience, and we do everything we can to make sure that every player is engaged and having fun.

Key skills will be taught at an age and skill appropriate level that will challenge each player. On-ice skills taught will consist of the following:
  • Body Positioning
  • Puck Protection
  • Skating Edge Work
  • Evasive Manœuvres
  • Small Area Games
The Northern Hockey School has been providing quality player instruction in Smithers, BC circa 2004. The school is coached and operated by individuals, with ties to the community, who have been involved with hockey at all levels for the majority of their lives. The Northern Hockey School youth camps are open to players of all genders, and skill levels with birth years falling between 2009-2016. Three separate youth camps are run concurrently split into birth years of 2009-2011, 2012-2013, and 2014-16. Each age group will receive two ice times per day, a dry land training session, a dry surface skill development session and a non-hockey sport game/education session. There will be time set aside each day for a snack and lunch. All players will receive a Northern Hockey School jersey at camp registration. The final day will consist of a game.
