Prep Camp 2.0

The rejuvenated Northern Hockey School conditioning camp is undergoing a complete transformation and name change. The newly minted Northern Hockey School Prep Camp will be a true high performance camp focused on skill development, education and strength and conditioning.

Rob Armstrong
Rob Armstong is a certified High Performance Coach by Hockey Canada and a professional hockey coach, who specializes in power skating and player development. He has over 15 years of coaching experience, working both in Canada and internationally. 2017 was his second year coaching at the AK-11 Hockey Academy in Slovenia with Anze Kopitar of the LA Kings. Rob has served as a Head Coach at every minor hockey level including Midget AAA, Junior B, has worked as a BC Hockey High Performance Program Coordinator and has also scouted in the WHL and BCHL. Rob loves to coach hockey and spends his summers traveling to numerous hockey camps in Canada and abroad, working with players from age 5 to future NHL prospects. Rob Armstrong will be the on-ice co-ordinator for the Northern Hockey School Prep Camp.

Derek Holland
Derek Holland is currently completing his Masters in Coaching Studies at the University of Victoria. Derek is a strong hockey mind and has been the head coach of the Smithers Secondary School Hockey Academy over the past two seasons. He has a special interest in high performance athletics, and enjoys working on the on and off-ice aspects of developing players to optimize their potential. Derek has worked in past summers with the Vancouver Canucks Strength and Conditioning staff. Derek Holland will be the off-ice co-ordinator for the Northern Hockey School Prep Camp.
The Prep Camp will start Monday, August 13th at 6:30pm with an on-ice session. Tuesday-Thursday will run a morning on ice skill session. Followed by a guided strength and conditioning session at Fitness Northwest. Each day following the strength and conditioning session there will be a work shop focusing on one of the following: sports psychology, nutrition and hydration, and strength and conditioning. The players will then be provided the afternoon to rest, recover and enjoy Smithers and surrounding area before an evening ice session consisting of skills, conditioning and a scrimmage. Friday will wrap up with a morning skills session, a final strength and conditioning session, and a final workshop on injury awareness and management before a 2:00pm game time. 
The Prep Camp is for players born before 2003 and aimed at preparing players for their upcoming tryouts and season. The camp will be a combination of drills aimed at skill development, and providing game like competitive situations. There will be players of all high performance levels including professional and collegiate in attendance. It will provide a high level competitive atmosphere, with the opportunity to measure yourself against players who are playing at the next step.
